ARTIST ENCYCLOPEDIA: The Hong Kong Ping Pong Club
Having DJed for 25 years and collected music for longer, it’s no surprise that this guy’s knowledge is deep. He ran a decade long drum and bass night in Plymouth where he is affectionately known as Plymouth’s 14th best DJ. He produces funky breaks for Jalapeno records and in the past has recorded for Catskills, Tru Thoughts, AV8 and Good Living records. He helps other artists with samples, most notably Fatboy Slim and was responsible for the Rizzle Kicks “Mama do the hump”. He has a deep knowledge of music, but a love for pop and is never afraid to drop cold classic bangers when they’re needed.
He eats all his vegetables and rings his parents regularly.
Daytoner has become familiar on funk and soul stages having performed at over 40 UK festivals. He has released 3 albums, both as a solo artist, and with his band, plus a series of edit EPs on vinyl and digital formats- several of which have topped the charts of various genres in online record stores. Tracks form these releases have also received regular airplay on Craig Charles Funk & Soul shows on BBC 6 Music and Radio 2, along with plays on BBC Radio One, BBC Introducing, and has had over a million SoundCloud plays. During a Daytoner set you can expect funk, soul, ska and latin flavoured edits, remixes and originals that he’s lovingly crafted in his studio alongside floor fillers, classic tracks and crate dug gems.
Firing up the bassbins and hitting you hard with a dose of raggamuffin junglist energy is what Ed Solo is all about. Ed's knack for the rudest of hooks is equalled only by his sublime studio skills. He cut his teeth in the mid '90s engineering at the notorious SOUR Records studios, going on to lay down a series of groundbreaking collaborations with jungle kingpin DJ Brockie. In 2007 Ed released ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ alongside Skool of Thought, featuring ‘When I Was A Yout’ and ‘We Play The Music’ among others.
Ed’s partnership with Jungle Cakes partner in crime Deekline has thrown up some of the most memorable tunes of the decade. The pair recently mixed the chart-topping 5th edition of their Welcome to the Jungle series.
EMMERSON SHAKINg PALMER
A Leopallooza veteran, Emmerson Shaking Palmer shakes the roof with an energetic mix of funk, soul and saucy rhythms that’ll get everyone up on the dancefloor…
Extra Medium is a Bristol based producer that has been taking on the influences of the city's unique underground music scene and fusing it with Electro Swing. Electro Swing? Done to death right? Wrong! His take on a very British underground sound and swing era jumping jazz leaves you in a bewildered jazz trance. Extra Medium’s sizeable approach to producing and DJing has earned him a place rubbing elbows with true greats - Chineseman, Dutty Moonshine and The Correspondents. And his past releases on the mighty Scour Records has earned him the overall top spot in multiple download charts over the past years. Extra Medium’s sonorously sleek swinging sound is something not to be sniffed at, as he delivers generously oversized portions of dance floor melting jazz age steppers.

1/3 of The Hong Kong Ping Pong Club. Owner and A&R at Scour Records. DJ & Super Sharp SoundCloud Scourer extraordinaire! With crates of the very finest bass heavy party funk so deep, even Mary Poppins would get lost in there. Personally responsible for unleashing some of the biggest new names into the Funky Breaks scene, and having played at gigs all over the UK, including Glastonbury Festival, he’s a certified dance floor destroyer!

Jungle Drum & Bass DJ and producer Tuskan is a name to watch out for in 2019! Having been a regular feature on many of the regions best line ups the past decade and billings at some huge festival stages including NASS, Glade, Masked Ball & Rock Oyster, 2019 has seen the beginnings of a stream of new releases with Bristol based label AFT Recordings and a recent signing of his collaboration with the prolific word smith, J Man, to Heist’s mighty Co-Lab recordings, following an already impressive list of labels he has already released. His set at Leopalloza’s Hong Kong Ping Pong Club, sees Tuskan delve into another passion of his: Dancehall- linked so closely with his Jungle roots, his style is bass heavy and bashy!
Swing music’s most dangerous and illusive duo Tuxedo Junction, consisting of equal parts Father Funk and Bear Twists, are residents of the jazz-fuelled 1920’s, brought back to the future with bodacious bass lines and sleazy, low-slung drums. There is simply no resisting the nectar-like charm of these mysterious, fez-wearing, cocktail-slurping maniacs.
Swing... Shaken, not stirred.
The propeller hat pair renowned for their bangers, mashups and sweet tasting gravy. Tom Mitchell and Jonny Rhodes have been tearing the Funk/Disco scene apart since early 2014 with their new take on the classic genre. With more bongos than Chief Costanzo and bass hooks fat enough to catch a marlin, these boys leave the crowd sweatier than a pig in labour!
Waggles spins his global grooves, funky breaks, tropical bass and balkan bangers and generally arousing blends of world and dance music that will tickle your earbuds with only the nicest vibes! He continues to add, chop, season and mash-up the dance-floor with endless grin-tastic tunes that have entertained dance floors from Bristol to Burning Man, from festival fields to tropical beaches and everywhere in-between..
WBBL specialises in beats bigger than Ben Nevis and basslines chunkier than that milk you forgot to throw out last week. It's hard to describe exactly what an average WBBL set comprises of, as no one has ever witnessed him play a set that is just ‘average’. His performances feature live re-interpretations and remixes of literally all the classics. From bassline to drum & bass, hip hop to house, funk to punk, no genre is safe from WBBL's production prowess. The man is just immeasurably wobbly.
“One of my favourite DJ and producers… just… so cool”
- Craig Charles (BBC Radio 6 Music)

ZE FUNKIN’ ENGLISH
Named after some friendly abuse hurled at us at the end of a forest party, (neither of us are English!) Danz and Si-Fi have been playing funk, soul, hip hop, breaks and occasionally some D&B for the last 7 years, back to back in the good town of Méribel Les Allues. Using digital vinyl, a growing a collection of 45s and occasionally harnessing the power of an erstwhile brass section, Ze Funkin’ English has gone from mates playing records together to a relatively polished party act that prioritises having fun behind the decks over all else.
In 2017/18 we were voted best DJs at the local Seasonnaire Awards. That’s given us the kick we need to get out of the valley and on the road.
